San Francisco-based active insurance provider Coalition has appointed tech veteran Frank Fumarola (pictured) as its new chief product officer.

Coalition CEO and co-founder Joshua Motta said the move strengthens the company’s focus on scaling products that support its mission to “help prevent digital risk before it strikes”.

“Our products are central to our ability to deliver active insurance to businesses of all sizes, especially as we expand into new markets,” Motta said.

“Frank’s experience in and passion for leading product teams to scale platforms that power positive customer experiences is paramount to Coalition’s mission to protect the unprotected.”

Coalition operates as both an insurance provider and a cybersecurity firm, offering automated alerts and risk management tools to policyholders in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and several European markets.

Accelerating Coalition’s product vision

For Fumarola, his platform-scaling experience will support Coalition’s product vision and improve offerings for policyholders.

"Digital risk is one of the most critical threats to businesses today, and I believe that Coalition’s combination of proactive security and comprehensive coverage is the right model to help organizations protect against that risk," Fumarola said.

"I am excited to bring that mindset to help accelerate Coalition’s product vision to improve our policyholders’ resilience."

Fumarola brings deep expertise in scaling major technology platforms, joining Coalition directly from the digital financial services giant Nubank.

At Nubank, he directed the Global Platforms and Core Systems group, overseeing the mobile application, customer experience (CX) tools, and the critical growth infrastructure that supported a user base of nearly 130 million customers.

Prior to his time at Nubank, Fumarola served as vice president of ads and shopping product and product marketing at Pinterest.
